"Scrapbook Chat":60

SFX: Car motor hums

Boy: Bye Mommy Kate!

Woman 1: Bye Anton!

SFX: Car door slams, car backs out of gravel parking spot

Woman 1: I thought I'd put together a scrapbook for Anton so he'll always remember the happy summer that brought him into our family. He was so excited this morning he forgot all his English words!

Woman 2: What made you consider international adoption, Kate?

Woman 1: To be honest we were getting a bit frustrated with the domestic system, and thought international would be another great way to find an older child.

Woman 2: You know Bill and I are looking to adopt. . . how can we get in touch with Kidsave to host a child like you did? The Summer Miracles Program seems like a great way to get to know a child before you make the final decision to adopt.

Woman 1: First, check out their website-- www.kidsaveinternational.org. Then give them a call at 1-888-888-8888.

SFX: Car motor slow, car stops, putters.

Woman 1: Thanks for coming along with me, Sue.

Woman 2: Thanks for the information. The number is 1-888-888-8888, right?

Woman 1: Right! Bye now!

Announcer: Open your heart and your home to a miracle this summer.(pause) Kidsave International-- because every child needs a family.

Creative Discussion

This radio ad was one of the things we left till the last minute, so it doesn't have a whole lot of oomph. It does, however serve the basic functions of introducing the Summer Miracles program and providing a way for interested parties to contact Kidsave. We wanted our audience to identify with the situation in this ad, so we made it a private conversation between two friends-- a realistic setting for the discussion of such a personal topic. From reading many personal accounts we found that a lot of people adopt internationally after having tried unsuccessfully to adopt here in the U.S. Many said they wish they had considered international adoption sooner. With this ad we hoped to prompt couples who are currently in the adoption process to consider international adoption. We also managed to throw in a reference to the scrapbook theme in the print ads ;)
